Another month has come to an end! With the end of October comes some songs I’d like to share with you all. I’ve been listening to these as I’ve gone through all of my midterm assignments! May they serve you in equally busy times.

Also, look out in November for my album of the year list! It’s been a great year for music and I can’t wait to share a wrap-up of all my favorites with you.

  1. “Shelter In Place” — Laura Jane Grace

Absolutely I had to start this list with a track off of Laura Jane Grace’s new album Stay Alive. I particularly enjoy “Shelter In Place,” particularly for the refrain, “Give me refuge in your shelter.”

2. “Someone’s Sometimes” — Jamie O’Neal & John Paul White

Jamie O’Neal makes it on the list two months in a row. This month O’Neal stands out with “Someone’s Sometimes.” It’s a classic country duet of heartache, of two people who can’t make a relationship work, of someone tired of not being made enough of a priority in someone else’s life. And I’m a sucker for that.

3. “Like Mine” — Brandy Clark

Keeping with country, Brandy Clark’s “Like Mine,” is beautiful track. In the song she sings, “So, forgive that I forget sometimes // yours it’s just like mine.”

4. “Vengeance Is Clear” — DevilDriver

Mixing it up here’s a DevilDriver track to loosen up those neck muscles to.

5. “Cold (feat. Sia)” — Leslie Odom Jr.

“Cold” is a great pop duet. The song will be appropriate in the upcoming months as it encourages one to come in from the cold. There’s probably something literal as well as metaphorical there.

6. “Ring My Bell” — Tatiana DeMaria

A favorite of mine, Tatiana DeMaria surprised me this month with a track on the soundtrack for American Pie Presents: Girls’ Rules. I’ve been meaning to check out the movie, but until I’m able to, I’ve got this track and the rest of the soundtrack to spin.

7. “Gone” — Dierks Bentley

It’s nice to see some new music from Dierks. I loved 2018’s The Mountain. And it seems as if Dierks has been busy, as he also released The K Is Silent as part of Hot Country Knights (folks should check out “You Make It Hard” featuring Terri Clark from Hot Country Knights).

8. “Crying Is Cool” — The Sonder Bombs

The Sonder Bombs are back with “Crying Is Cool.” This track comes off the upcoming album Clothbound out January 29.

9. “Teardrops” — Bring Me The Horizon

This track is the fourth single off of BMTH’s newest album Post Human: Survival Horror, which came out yesterday! For Doom Eternal fans the album was co-produced by Mick Gordon. The album also features Yungblud, Babymetal, Nova Twins, and Amy Lee.

10. “Kids Again” — Sam Smith

I’m the type of person who, when it’s come to Sam Smith, I’ve mostly only listened to “Stay With Me” and “I’m Not The Only One,” but I’m glad Spotify put this one on my “Release Radar” because it’s a fantastic song.

11. “Make It Violent” — Wake Up Hate

I’m going to close out this month’s list with “Make It Violent.” This is my introduction to Wake Up Hate, who have been making music since 2018.

What was I listening to in Octobers past?

October 2019 offers some stiff competition for picking just one track to look back on, but I’m going to have to go with “Rainy Day” by Mean Mary.

For 2018 I’ve got to bring back Mumford & Sons’ “If I Say.”
